W.C. Redmon & Sons Co. began manufacturing high-quality, hand-woven utilitarian baskets in Peru, Indiana in 1883. By the 20th century, the company transitioned heavily into producing these iconic, highly durable mid-century modern wicker picnic baskets. Built sturdily with a wooden structural frame, woven sides, plywood split-hinged lid and drop-down metal swing handles.
